Welcome to Hewes Quarter Horses, home of the “Box Slash” brand. We are a family owned and operated ranch that has been breeding quality ranch raised Quarter Horses for 50 years. We have been extremely fortunate over the years to have acquired ancestors of what is acknowledged to be five of the great mares of the Quarter Horse breed at the time the AQHA was formed. Our gene pool features the closest producing offspring of Lady Coolidge, Dixie Beach, Little Sue (the great dogging horse and broodmare), Miss Chubby and Mame Taylor. History has verified that a significant number of outstanding individuals excelling in all phases of American Quarter Horse competition, trace directly to these five mares. Our breeding program includes living ancestors of these mares through our herd sires, as well as through many of our broodmares. Our paternal line also embraces many of the great horses of the breed including: Harlan, Roan Wolf, Goodbye Sam, Bert, JB King, Harmon Baker, Fairfax Joe, Blondy’s Dude, Leo, Hollywood Gold, and many more.
